If unsure, pick JPG at 150 DPI. That's the sweet spot for most uses.

DPI explained

DPI = dots per inch. Higher = sharper but bigger:

72 DPI — preview / thumbnail. A4 page ≈ 600×850 px.
150 DPI — screen reading. A4 ≈ 1240×1750 px.
300 DPI — print quality. A4 ≈ 2480×3500 px.

Higher DPIs blow up file sizes geometrically. A 50-page PDF at 300 DPI PNG can be 100+ MB zipped.
